Blue Booty Blitz Fat Bike Disco Race

About

The Blue Booty Blitz is part of the 2024/2025 Trek Winter Fat Bike Series, a fundraiser for two awesome non-profits: Chugach Mountain Bike Riders and the Eagle River Nature Center.

Battle for series points and glory by signing up for the longer races, or keep it mellow by signing up for the shorter races. Mix and match, but just come and ride while supporting two great community-minded organizations. Fabulous prizes await everyone who participates in all three races. Special awards for series points winners.

We will have disco balls, and we're not joking.

You may have picked up on the vibe that the Blue Booty is meant as a fun, sort of silly, event. Sure, it's a race, but this is about having fun on some great trails in Anchorage, as well an enjoying the disco ball aesthetic. What does that even mean? We have no idea. Clearly, you should come out to see for yourself.

Special thanks to Alaska Pacific University, Recreation Programs for trusting us to actually put on this event. To the fine people who work at the APU Moseley Sports Center, we can only say, we will try not to disappoint you or get you fired.

Date: Wednesday, March 6, 2024

Time: Races start at 7:00pm

We have two events to choose from:

  1. Shirley Short CourseJust for fun. The event is timed and the course will be about six-miles in length, a perfect distance to burn off a few pork rinds.
  2. Larry Long Course – This is a points race. Are you chasing series points for guts and glory? This race is for you. The course will be around 12-miles long.

All of this could be yours for the low, low price of only $45 bucks. Now, that’s value, folks.

Perhaps you noticed this event takes place at night. We couldn’t do this event during the day because the disco ball wouldn’t work very well, and besides, we have our priorities. The disco ball must shine. Since it will be dark, bring bike lights so you can see in the woods.

What to bring/What is provided

Okay, you read the part where this is a night race, right? Okay, so bring bike lights. It's a fat bike disco ball and race, with a heavy emphasis on the fat bike part. Do not even try to ride a bike with less than 3.8" wide tires. As jokey as we are about the whole thing, skinny tires ruin the trail. That's not funny.

A disco ball. That's what we are providing. We also have LED lights to make it sparkly and a small motor to make the disco ball go around. In addition, we'll have a few tents, a fire pit, loud music, and pink flamingos. Plus, we're providing FREE pizza!

Toilets will be available close to the start/finish area, but not too close to the pizza.

Course

Like the mullet you used to have in high school, the course is kind of all-business in the front, and all-party in the back. This is by design because who doesn't like mullets?

There will be some shenanigans to start the race, so be prepared. After you start, you will ride approximately 2.6 miles on perfectly manicured ski trails (okay, they're really multi-use trails) with corduroy so smooth, it's like a Formula 1 race track. This is the short-haired, all business part. The trail should be fast and wide with plenty of opportunities to pass your fellow Fat Bike Disco Ball participants. Careful though! There are some steep hills and descents with sharp corners. Take it easy!

The final mile jumps onto the popular Blue Booty fat bike trail, a snaking single track through the woods. This is the all-party, long hair part of the mullet trail. After popping out onto the field, sprint your way around and up the hill to the finish area. Or not. It's you choice.

If you signed up for the Shirley Short Course event, congratulations! you're a winner on the inside. If you signed up for the Larry Long Course points race, well, aren't you a sturdy little fat biker. Keep going!

Awards

Since this is RACE and awards are sort of EXPECTED, we will conduct a points-series award banquet right after the Long Course race is finished.
